Single Subscription for AAA in 3GPP and non-3GPP Accesses

For maintaining a single identity over the heterogeneous access networks, a specific mechanism for AAA had to be developed for the non-3GPP accesses, in which the same subscription information is used for the authentication and the authorization through algorithms such as EAP-AKA and EAP-AKA'. For this an AAA server is deployed able to translate the AAA requests from the access network to the HSS.

OpenEPC Rel. 3 includes also the functionality for the AAA to non-3GPP accesses including the support for the EAP-AKA/EAP-AKA'. By using the same credentials as for the 3GPP accesses and communicating over DIAMETER or RADIUS, the authentication and authorization procedure is including the OpenEPC AAA Server which proxies the information to the OpenEPC HSS. Additionally, the dynamic information is exchanged between the PDN GW and the HSS enabling the convergent functioning of the mobility selection functionality over 3GPP and non-3GPP accesses. The demonstration includes the AAA procedures as part of the attachment or of the handovers to the non-3GPP access.
