Service Adaptation to the Momentary Network Context

The novel services developed for the mobile environment have to take into account the momentary context of the mobile devices as to be able to deliver the content at the appropriate quality of experience.

For this scenario, the OpenEPC platform is used together with an application which is able to adapt its throughput without requiring any signaling with the mobile device such as the FOKUS Media Delivery Function (MDF) video server which is able to transmit a same video stream with different throughput.

After the service is established with the correspondent throughput over one access network an immediate access network reselection and seamless handover procedure are triggered. During the procedure the OpenEPC platform notifies the application to modify its throughput according to the target access network. This scenario visualizes how the quality of the video stream is modified depending on the access network to which the mobile device is connected to.
