Hardware Requirements

OpenEPC Rel. 1 has the goal of providing a simple and easy to maintain testbed infrastructure enabling rapid show-casing and integration of concepts pertaining to the IP broadband wireless environment.

OpenEPC network components were developed and can be deployed on standard commercial off-the-shelf x86 Linux systems enabled for example with the latest version of the Ubuntu (TM) Linux Operating System, which allows for cost-effective, fast prototyping, facile deployment and easy control of the various functional components. The minimalistic setup which would still keep scenarios clearly visible and easy to understand and work with, require typically around 4 server-type systems (1xPDN-Gw, 2xANGw, 1xEPC Enablers) and at least a client one. Of course, the entire setup can be configured or delivered as an EPC-in-a-box, with all systems virtualized, for further cost minimizing.
